Give Yourself a Constraint to Spark an Idea

Total freedom can stall creativity; a limit often unlocks it. When you're stuck on a problem, deliberately add a constraint — a ten-minute timer, a single material, a rule that the solution use only what's already on your desk. Instead of resisting the restriction, let it channel your energy toward an unexpected route. Boundaries push you off the obvious path, which is often exactly where a fresh solution has been hiding.

Three Breaths

  1. Breathe — Notice the blank, open problem.
  2. Breathe — Give yourself one tight constraint.
  3. Breathe — Let the limit spark a new idea.
