What are meditations?

Meditations are simply mental training practices. You can learn and improve upon a variety of skills depending on the type of meditation you do. The more you practice, the better your skills will become.

Remember that you are not learning to “control” or “calm” anything, but rather, you are learning to be aware of what is going on around you and within you. With this awareness, you can move away from auto-pilot to awareness, which gives you the ability to also move away from compulsion to choice. With choice comes freedom!

The more you practice, the better your skills will become. Be gentle and kind with yourself as you practice.

You can practice in whatever posture you want.  There is no science to indicate that HOW you meditate makes any difference.  The key is to be comfortable and set an intention.  An intention is simply deciding on the mental skill that you wish to exercise and staying with that for the entirety of your practice.
