Becoming more insightful is necessary because many of our beliefs run below the surface of conscious awareness, so we may not notice them at all.  Learning to uncover these beliefs while remaining compassionate to ourselves will then allow us to shift them to something more reasonable and balanced.

Every difficult emotion comes back to one of three themes. Fear points to trust, shame points to value, and anger points to acceptance. Much of insight is finding which theme is active, so ask yourself: what am I not trusting, not valuing, or not accepting?

With practice, we can build this insight skill.

Next, we will look at a practice method that works well with insight: writing and journaling.

Practicing consistently is the key to mastering new skills.
